About

Built and run by an operator, not a vendor.

Cernia is the marketing intelligence service Peter Fougerousse built for the businesses he runs paid media for, and now runs for others. It exists because the work it does is the work most growing companies never find the hours for.

The operator

Peter Fougerousse has spent twenty years running performance marketing and P&L for ecommerce businesses, from a furniture startup he took to tens of millions in sales to a retailer already past a billion whose measured paid-media revenue he doubled. He is unusual in one way: he runs the marketing at scale and he writes the software underneath it.

That combination is where Cernia comes from. The audits, the reconciliation across every platform, the monthly reallocation inside guardrails, the experiments with stop rules, the reports leadership reads: all of it was built because one person could not do it by hand every week for businesses of that size, and a system could. Cernia is that system, run as a service, on your accounts, with the same rules.

Most growing companies stop at an attribution tool, a dashboard and someone writing ad copy with a chatbot, because nobody on the team has the hours to reconcile every platform and act on what it says. The largest companies have analysts for that. Cernia gives yours the same capacity.

Why it is a service

A tool gives you another login and leaves the work with you. Cernia does the work: it reads, reconciles, audits, drafts the move, builds the ads, runs the experiment and proves the result on your own numbers. Your team keeps the decisions, and a named approver says yes to every change before it lands.

His work on ecommerce growth has been covered by Inc., Yahoo Small Business, CBS News, American Express and Digital Commerce 360. More of his writing and the engagements behind it are at pfouge.com.

Principles

How the work is done.

  • Operator, not vendor

Cernia is run by someone who has carried the paid-media P&L, not sold software to the people who do. The service is judged the way an operator is judged: on sales, with receipts.

  • Numbers before opinions

Every figure shows its source, its window and the checks it passed. Stop rules are written before a dollar is spent. Losers are shut down with the reason logged.

  • Your team decides

Cernia drafts, checks and proves. A named person on your side approves every change, and nothing is deleted, ever.

  • Few businesses at a time

Cernia takes on a small number of businesses so each gets the operator's attention, not a queue.
